Angels for Animals Foundation is a volunteer-run UK registered charity that is committed to supporting the rescue and rehabilitation of stray, abandoned and abused dogs via partnerships with on-the-ground activists and rescuers in Turkey and rehoming as many of those animals as possible into loving homes in the United Kingdom. They are here to help any breed, age and size of dog. Angels for Animals Foundation aims to be entirely indiscriminate.

The Rescue Mission - Why Focus On Turkey?

There are several million stray animals on the streets of Turkey.

In addition to those dogs who are born on the streets, every day more dogs are abandoned around the country’s cities. Most abandoned dogs are pure breed dogs whose breeds have become fashionable to be sold in pet shops as puppies and whose owners have grown bored of them once they have grown out of their cute, fluffy, puppy size.

On top of the daily struggle to survive, dogs on the street in Turkey are vulnerable to attack, particularly in village communities, by locals who view them as pests and filthy creatures. It is not uncommon to hear of dogs being beaten, poisoned, shot and stabbed by villagers and even sexually abused by men. Stories of such abuse against dogs frequently make the news in the country and are shared around social media by native animal activists. They also are vulnerable to dogcatchers from municipal shelters. Locals in communities where dogs are not welcome in Turkey often call the local authorities to ask for the street dogs to be removed from their area. Dogcatchers often use tranquillisers to round up the dogs. Sometimes, rather than then taking them to the local “shelter”, they will shoot, poison or dump the dogs in a remote region of the mountains or forests with no access to food, water or shelter with the intention that they will starve and/or freeze to death in winters.

What Does The Charity Do?

The team relentlessly work with the partners and local volunteers to intercept and rescue the dogs as much as they possibly can and give them a second chance. This involves veterinary attention, treating serious and life threatening illnesses, on boarding them in kennels to make sure they are safe and eventually finding them sponsors leading to permanent adoption. It’s heart-breaking to say that they can’t take on as many as they want due to limited funds have to turn away opportunities to rescue, but that’s where we can help! Their strength, unbelievable kindness and compassion and with donations, sponsors and loving volunteers, they have saved many lives, given them the veterinary care, medication, love and successfully bought them over here to be rehomed in the UK and will continue to do so over of many years.

Your donation will help to not only rescue dogs from these unthinkable situations but also help with veterinary care, kennel boarding, food, vaccinations, and many more, 100% of everything they raise goes directly to helping rescue dogs.

Why Did I Choose This Charity?

As an animal lover, it’s plain to see why I chose to work with this charity, it’s not only incredibly close to my heart but it was founded by a wonderful lady by the name of Katie Harrison who I first spoke to in 2019 when she was on the search for a vegan friendly and cruelty free makeup artist for her wedding. Katie spent time volunteering with various animal shelters and rescue organisations and saw the extent to which animals were suffering globally and wanted to do more to help them and to support the amazing rescue community, She created Angels for Animals in a mission to rescue animals and give them the chance they deserve and go to homes where they will find love, free from suffering and pain. I am so grateful that this job has led me to meeting some incredible women and Katie is definitely that. For me, It’s a total honour and privilege to support such a wonderful organisation not just for the short term, but for as long as I am able to do so.

Many of my clients are heart centred animals lovers who navigate towards my business because I am a cruelty free makeup artist. My mission to support this charity comes from a place of deep routed love for what they do and a belief that no living being should suffer unnecessarily. I know that donations will make a huge impact on their ability to not only look after the dogs in their care but to enable them to on-board new dogs who are in critical conditions or who have been severely neglected and abused.
