5 Top Cruelty Free and Vegan Concealers

Following on from the success of my Top 5 Cruelty Free and Vegan Foundations blog Concealers are the next product I get asked about the most. Whether it be to conceal spots or to hide a bad nights sleep, the quest for the prefect concealer is never ending. I have tried to devise a list of products which will hopefully suit most people from anyone who has acne prone to sensitive to mature skin. In my opinion, It seriously cringes me out when I see those videos where they apply massive amounts in the shape of a triangle under their eyes, I am not sure why or when that became a “thing” but I personally think it’s unnecessary (probably because I am 37 and don’t like heavy makeup) but with most if not all products, depending on how you much you apply to the skin and what tools you use to blend it in will determine the coverage and overall finished appearance

My main aim was to show you some awesome tried and tested and concealers which are not tested on animals and have no animal derived ingredients in them and products which you can go and buy in store which is super important if you want to be matched up for the right shade. For that reason alone, there are two brands which didn’t make the top spots as they are currently only available online which are Tarte Cosmetics – Shape Tape and Amazon Clay concealer and Inika – Certified Organic perfection concealer, both brilliant products if you wanted to check them out.

Application tip! – Personally, I just use my fingers to tap it under the eyes but in other areas like on spots or scarring I prefer to go over using a dabbing motion with the foundation brush to give a more natural finish and blend it in with any excess product on the brush. Some people like to use a blending sponge, but they offend me, I don’t know why, but they really just do.

So here they are… in no particular order!

1.       Urban decay Naked Skin Concealer - £20.00

This multi award winning concealer has an ultra lightweight coverage with a luminous, demi matte finish. It builds easily and gives a second skin finish and blends beautifully without settling into lines.

Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer comes in a range of carefully adjusted shades that co-ordinate well with the Naked Skin range so if you are a fan of their foundation (which is one of my top 5 vegan and cruelty free foundations!) This pairs amazingly with that. Urban Decay have a shade-matching system which is a really good starting point for finding your perfect shade. This is an all round go-to concealer for brighter complexion and hiding dark circles. Less is more if you want a natural finish!

This brilliant natural finish concealer has ingredients such as blue lotus which hydrates dry areas and chamomile which helps calms redness and irritation as you wear it so a must have for anyone with sensitive skin. It has a seamless finish and unlike other concealers doesn’t leave an orange cast that reveals where it’s been applied. Milk wanted to create a concealer which is medium-to-full coverage and covers anything from scarring and pimples to under-eye circles, all without cracking or creasing. The secret to perfecting this lies in marshmallow root powder and small bendable spheres which bend with the skin as opposed to cracking or shifting. This is also a great choice for any gym goers and for holidays too as it is brilliant at withstanding the heat. Available in 16 shades, this is great for all skin types however if you have particularly dry skin under the eyes then make sure you have moisturised in that area before applying.

4.    Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away concealer - £24.00

Well, of course I couldn’t compile a “best of” list without getting the Tilbo involved. I love this product and I feel like it delivers on what it promises, which is a full coverage “second skin” concealer designed to reduce the appearance of dark circles, blemishes and imperfections for fresher and healthier looking skin instantly. This is one for the lovers of a more “natural” finish makeup product as it’s a grown up concealer as many of Tilbury products are. My clients love it because it appeals to a “working professional” demographic and is something special if you like luxury packaging and want a brand that offers consistency when it comes to well performing makeup

5 years in the making, this product has some great ingreients such as Persian Silk Tree Bark Extract which can contribute to the illusion of a lifted upper eyelid, as well as reducing the appearance of crow’s feet wrinkles and fading dark circles, Palmitoyal Glycine which helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and Extract of Wild Indigo which is a native Indian plant used in ayurvedic tradition that helps to enhance the skin’s luminosity. I highly recommend this for women concerned with skin aging and anyone who wants to look natural and flawless.

I discovered this concealer on a whim when realising I had forgotten my usual concealer at home on my way to spend the weekend down south and desperately needed to pick something up that was cheap and cheerful and on the way. Luckily, I knew I could trust that Superdrug will have something to offer as they are my go-to store for hair products, beauty tools and all that jazz knowing they are all about cruelty free and stock a lot of vegan friendly products. I was actually very surprised with this concealer and truth be told, have purchased it again since.

It comes in a massive 50 shades ranging from fair to deep, in a range of undertones. I found that even though it is full coverage, its still lightweight (if you don’t slap it on) and stays put all day with no creasing under my eyes. I have some pigmentation from acne scars which this covers brilliantly. It is a matte finish (which I prefer) and a little goes a long way so don’t go crazy if you want a natural finish which is always my preference.

Give it a whirl!
